ABA Therapy...What exactly is ABA?

What exactly is ABA therapy and how can it help my child?  This is the #1 question I get asked on a daily basis.

In scientifc terms...

“Applied Behavior Analysis is the process of systematically applying interventions based upon the principles of learning theory to improve socially significant behaviors to a meaningful degree, and to demonstrate that the interventions employed are responsible for the improvement in behavior"

In our daily practice, we apply the Science of Behavior to develop a program for your child which will increase language, decrease problem behaviors and increase functional skills.  We take data on all interventions to show progress.  Progress does vary from child to child. Progress can also vary within an individual child's programs.  Our goal is always to improve socially significant behaviors.

I am a firm believer that communication is the key to everything.  Every child's program is based on improving their communication skills and teaching them how to communicate effectively within all of their environments.  When you can communicate your wants and needs, life improves on every front.

There are many ways to apply the science of behavior to every day life.  We use research based interventions specific to your child's needs. Each child's program is completely individualized and different from any other child...this is how we can affect the most change.

ABA can be used to improve skills in EVERY area:  language development, increasing language, increasing eye contact, listener skills, daily living skills, feeding, increasing food choices, bedtime troubles, toileting, social skills, sibling relationships, academic skills, fine motor skills, gross motor skills, chores, homework, decreasing problem behaviors and any other behavior that needs improvement.

When everyone is on board, working together and remaining calm and consistent, ABA works!  It involves on-going assessment and data taking; it is ever evolving with your child as they move forward and have success.
